A traditional wood-fired sauna, in nature.

Kindred Sauna is located in a magical rural location in West Sussex.

We collaborated with Stak Interiors to create the most beautiful hand-built sauna.

Slow grown timbers from cold climates clad the interior and bench seating. Our Iki Mini stove is the finest Finnish design, with over 100kg of volcanic rock, delivering a large thermal mass. This all adds up to an exceptional sauna experience!

We are inspired by how important time in nature is for our wellbeing, and then combining it with a relaxing sauna, you have a dream combination.

We fell in love with sauna…

...and are passionate about helping more people to access this ancient and magical wellness experience. We found sauna to relax our body and open our minds like no other wellness process we have experienced.

Who are we?

I’m Marianne, and started Kindred Sauna after having my eyes opened by the re-emergence of British bathing culture, of which Sussex is an epicentre.

First, I wanted one in my garden and thought I could invite friends and neighbours to use it, but then thought, how about the wider community? Everyone needs sauna in their life!

I was moved by the power of a simple hour in sauna, in and out of the cold plunge made me feel so incredible. I felt so relaxed, mentally loosened and the feeling carried on with a natural high, glowing skin and a wonderful night’s sleep. It works like a mini spa day, that you can access affordably for a hour, rather than a once a year special treat.

I could not stop thinking about sauna!

Sussex has some amazing saunas, but they are all by the sea, which isn’t convenient for us inland folk to access. Everyone needs access to good quality sauna, regardless of age or location. It’s how we are going to survive our dismal winters, it’s how we can learn to calm our body and spirit, ready for our crazy busy lives. I genuinely feel it changes us every time we have a sauna.

I decided with my husband Gareth, and herbalist friend Helen, to build a movable sauna, so that we could spread the good word of the wonder of a simple sauna. It is an affordable and quick way to gain a whole myriad of health benefits, not to mention ways to connect with friends, have nice chats with strangers, and genuinely feel wonderful.

I have a background in wanting to help people to feel happier and more connected to others and nature. I am a student and teacher of Buddhism and meditation with over 15 years experience. My day job is as a healthcare professional in the NHS, with my official side hustle as a saunapreneur - I’m hoping this ends up being the most wonderful mid life crisis!
